Abstract

The pipe fitting (11) is provided with tapered outlets (12) with the minimum radius R equal to the radius of the pipe (10) to which the fitting is to be joined. The pipe (10) is provided with a matching conical surface (13) which is produced by a tapered tool forced into the end of the pipe. The external conical surface of the fitting (11) is covered with adhesive or solder or brazing spelter and then pushed inside the conical end of the pipe (10). The taper prevents the adhesive being scraped off before the pipe and fitting are pressed together and so an even layer of adhesive is maintained between the joint surfaces.
