Abstract

Two pipes, esp. metal pipes, are joined together, where the pipes have the same dimensions and the walls are thin as compared with the pipe dia. At least the end of one pipe is chamfered, and then puchsed into the end of the other pipe, which is supported on its outside for a length at least equal to the depth of penetration of pipe into pipe; This prevents radial bulging of pipe. The outer end of pipe is pref. chamfered 5-20 degrees, and pipe (2) is provided with a conical bore of the same angle, before pressing pipe (1) into pipe (2); ring grooves are pref. also provided on the periphery of pipe (1) where a joint surface will be formed between the two pipes. A rapid and inexpensive method of joining two pipes with the same dimensions to form a strong-gas-tight joint without increasing the outside dia. of the pipes. The process can be used for joining gas pipes made of Al, z, Cu, S, or alloys based on these metals.
