Abstract
The gears for the clock drive are supported between two moulded plates. The top plate carries the printed circuit for a pulse generator. The lower plate carries a moulded hollow pillar (8) that supports the twin stators (1 & 2). These are formed from stampings and their teeth interleave. The stator winding (3) is formed around a magnetic core that separates the stators. The rotor has a solid magnetic pole piece (4) attached to the drive pinion (5). Damping and noise reduction are provided by a fluid container on the pinion end shaft and an elastic web that bears on the pinion gear from within the teeth of the reduction gear. This combined motor and pinion reduces the size and number of components in the clock.
