Abstract

The input shaft (2) carries a pinion (3) which engages a gear wheel (4) which drives the cage (1a) which carries the planetary sprockets (7) (8) (10) and (11). The sprocket (11) is connected by a driving chain (19) to the output sprocket (17a). The sprockets (8) and (10) are connected by the chain (16) and the sprocket (7) is connected by the chain (15) to the sprocket (13a) which is rigidly attached to the housing (20). This arrangement of sprockets and chains produces the same effect as a conventional epicyclic reduction gear using gears but can be manufactured at much lower cost. The system is particularly useful for winch drives requiring a very large speed reduction between input and output shafts.
