Abstract

The rivet closing tool consists of a steel mandrel (8) with its end portion (8a) of reduced diameter terminating in a point (8d). A hollow copper rivet (7) has a bore which fits the diameter (8a) and a countersunk head, which matches the taper (8c) of the mandrel (8), is placed on the mandrel. The mandrel is used to pierce a hole through the belt (2) and is guided by the holes in the fastener (1). The mandrel is driven by hammer blows until the river is in the correct position and the mandrel is then withdrawn and the end of the rivet is splayed out to fit the countersunk hole in the underside of the belt fastener.
