Abstract

The nail punch is used to drive headless nails or panel pins into timber or similar. It includes a countersinking shoulder (3) and a striated cylindrical handle (1) projects axially to form a haft of reduced dia. The haft steps down to form the punch tip (4). Both radial steps are tapered i.e. of a part conical form, and the latter step constitutes the countersinking die. The implement is used by placing the tip (4) in a predrilled bore of a definite dia. and applying hammer blows to the remote handle end. The conical shoulder compresses the timber in the bore mouth to obtain the contours appropriate to a countersunk screw head. A handle window (2) may denote the punch size.
