Abstract

The tube 10) is compressed in a blind hole (24) in the wood (26). The diameter of the hole is slightly less than the exterior diameter of the tube, when it is not compressed. This excludes the annular V protrusions (14), (16). The blind hole can be chamfered (28) to suit a similar flared conical end of the tube (22). The V protrusions enable the tube to grip the wood more effectively. The system can be used in natural or synthetic wood-like material. Applications are envisaged for furniture items including tables, chairs, kitchen items, cupboards or for decorative additions to boats, caravans or similar transport vehicles having wooden fitments.
