Abstract

A textile material packed in a container having vapour permeable (pref. perforated) side walls so as to leave a central passage extending through the textile material whereby the thickness of the material around the central passage is constant. The container is then pref. located in a sealed chamber such that the central passage communicates with a vapour inlet duct and the annular space between container and chamber walls connects with an exhaust duct. The annular space is firstly evacuated as vapour is then introduced into the central passage so that it passes radially outwardly through the textile material into the annular space from where it is subsequently exhausted. The method is used for developing or fixing dyed textiles or for shrinking textiles and is quicker and ensures a more uniform treatment.
