Abstract

The shock absorber has a central rigid part and a second coaxial rigid part between which is fitted an elastomeric cushion with a section which contacts a corresponding surface on at least one of the rigid parts, and during relative motion between the two parts rubs against this surface. The cushion is a toroidal hollow body of circular or helicoidal cross section whose interior is connected via passages to the atmosphere, and the friction surface is preferably on the inner rigid part which has a cylindrical surface running into tapered protuberances at either end.
