Abstract

This storage tube has, within an evacuated envelope, at least one writing gun (7 and/or 8), control and deflection electrodes and a gun (6) for the maintenance of the image. The target is capable of secondary emission under the influence of the writing beam. To provide selective erasure, this tube uses the writing gun's electron beam to provoke secondary emission with a coefficient greater than unity. The target area affected by the beam is polarised to a positive potential with respect to the collector grid and therefore the secondary electrons return to the target thus neutralising the negative image charge. Suitable variation of the erase beam provides selective erasure.
