Abstract

The pulley driven by geared motor, has side mounting plates which pivot on a pin through two support struts at the top of which is the suspension hook. These struts extend downwards and bend to one side. An auxiliary pulley is mounted at their extremity. The motor is mounted at the other side of the pulley from the auxiliary wheel. To fit the rope to the device the assembly is tilted about the side plate support axis, moving the pulley away from the auxiliary pulley. The rope is threaded between a jockey wheel and the main pulley and through the wide gap between the pulley and the auxiliary. The weight of the device together with any load on the rope then comprises the rope between the pulley and auxiliary. A stop is provided to prevent excessive compression. This ensures a tight fit of the rope in the pulley channel, improving the grip.
