Abstract

Hollow blocks are made by introducing lightweight or normal weight concrete, esp. contg. a lightweight elastic aggregate such as expanded polystyrene particles, into the block; there are no cores initially in the mould to form the voids in the block, but instead displacement members are introduced into the mould after the concrete mix and pref. vibrated to produce the greater part of the vibration required. This arrangement reduces the amt. of noise involved in prodn. and ensures a better distribution of the concrete mix with reduced segregation.
