Abstract

Sheet of polymer material esp. for covering books, is coated with an inner layer and an outer layer, each consisting of (I) an oxazolidine polymer of formula (I), and (II) a clay material, the inner layer having a wt. ratio II:I of ca. 1:1, and the outer layer having a wt. ratio II:I of 1:1, esp. 2:1. where R is H or CH3; m is 2 or 3; R1 is H, phenyl, benzyl or 1-12 C alkyl; R2 is H, or 1-4 C alkyl; or R1 and R2 together form pentamethyline or tetramethylene; and A is -C(CH2)m or -(O-alkylidene)n; where n is a number such that -(O-alkylidene) has a mol. wt. of 88-348, and each alkylidene is ethylene and/or propylene. The coating bonds strongly to the sheet, and the coated sheet has a good receptivity for printing ink, and good resistance to abrasion, blocking, and crumpling.
