Abstract

Measurement of transverse plastic deformation, normal to the test force, is carried out on a standard Charpy pendulum tester. A specially shaped test billet having a splayed head and preferably having a cylindrical body smaller in diameter than the head, is mounted on the pendulum and let fall. The height of the rebound is noted and serves to give the desired data. Again, it is preferred that the test piece has a truncated cone shaped hollow inside the splayed head, the base of the hollow having the same diameter as the body.
