Abstract
A fluorescent tube is fired using a transistor interrupter. During each supply half cycle the current in the ballast inductance and tube filaments is interrupted a large number of times. The base of the transistor is controlled by a relaxation circuit connected across a bilateral conducting element. The relaxation circuit which determines the interruption frequency, is neutralized as soon as voltage is applied to the starter, so as to bring the transistor interrupter into saturation. A circuit with a relatively long time constant controls a switch connected in series with the relaxation circuit. Neutralization ceasing at the end of a period governed by the timing circuit.
