Abstract

The furnace has a swivelable lid above which a section cover is arranged. The cover has an opening which can be closed by a lid and into which a changing container can be lowered when the furnace lid and cover lid are swivellent away. The container has a skirt which can rest on the cover to seal the opening. Pref. the furnace is tiltable and has a launder at an upper edge over which the cover can be placed. Pref. part of the cover remote from the launder can be swivelled away horizontally and the two lids can be swivelled away simultaneously. Arrangement is esp. suitable for melting furnaces e.g. electric arc furnaces.
