Abstract

The eggs are delivered by a first conveyor to a calibrated balance which determines their weights by the time taken to reach a predetermined degree of disequilibrium, while a second conveyor transports them away and a sorting device directs them to the appropriate compartments. The balance between the conveyors has an arm with a hopper at its free end, formed by two vibrating plates which open and close under the action of a first cam rotating in synchronism with the conveyors. At the other end of the arm is a magnetic core working in conjunction with a stationary electro-magnet. The curve of the current supplied to the latter is a ramp whose amplitude is a function of the weight of the egg in the hopper. The arm also has a locking mechanism driven by a second cam keyed to the same spindle as the first.
