Abstract

The liq. is distributed in a porous strip made of layers of coarse gauze covered by fine gauze. The strip dips into a reservoir of liq., makes an inverted U and is led alongside a heated wall. The liq. is drawn up by capillary attraction and evaporates as it flows along the wall. If the level in the reservoir drops less liq. is drawn up. This effect may be increased by tapering the strip in the direction of the resevoir. The evaporator may be connected to a condenser and the condensate returned to the reservoir by a line contg. a vapour trap.
