Abstract

The separator comprises a rotor made up of coaxial soft iron discs spaced by annular permanent magnets with like poles gripping opposite sides of each discs. Bulk material is fed into the rotor casing to fall on to a screen of material impermeable to the magnetic field and following the rotor circumference over a limited arc. Non-magnetic material falls freely down a corridor between the screen and the casing while magnetic inclusions are attracted to the screen, carried around the arc and dropped off when the arc finishes. The separator is virtually non-clogging and the magnet faces do not become blocked off, even when processing damp material.
