Abstract

A heat exchanger particularly a reboiler, e.g. in a sugar boiler (evaporator), has an enclosure surrounding a central bank of tubes through which the prod. in the enclosure circulates in heat exchange with a fluid at high temp. by natural convection in such a way that it passes up the central tube bank and returns downwards through the annular space around the periphery of the tube assembly. The enclosure communicates in a peripheral zone with >=1 space, pref. a series, each of which can receive the boiling prod. and is provided with a mechanical stirrer suitable for mixing and homogenising the product, to cause it to circulate downwards from the upper part to the bottom of the enclosure.
