Abstract

Aq. solns of Ni contg. Pb are electrolysed in a cell at 1-3V, current density 0.05-0.5 A/dm2 and temp. 50-90 degrees C with an inert anode. The electrolyte near the cathode is agitated, pref. by rotating the cathode, and the Pb is deposited on to the stainless steel cathode preferentially. A soln. contg. 158g/l Ni and 0.015 g/l Pb is purified to 0.001 g/l Pb in 3 hrs. and the Ni losses are only 0.09%.
