Abstract
1407644 Electrolytically producing MnO 2 ; removing cluster from the cathode MITSUI MINING & SMELTING CO Ltd 22 Aug 1973 39728/73 Heading C7B Cluster comprising alkaline earth metal sulphates (which is deposited on a cathode during the production of electrolytic MnO 2 by electrolysis of an aqueous H 2 SO 4 -MnSO 4 solution containing alkaline earth metal salts) is subsequently removed from the cathode by effecting electrolysis of an aqueous H 2 SO 4 -MnSO 4 solution using as an anode the cathode having the cluster deposited on its surface so as to deposit electrolytic MnO 2 on the cluster, and giving an impact to the deposited MnO 2 so that the cluster is stripped off together with the MnO 2 . The electrode may be of Pb, Pb alloy graphite or carbon. Where the same electrolyte is used in both electrolysis steps, the electrodes may be merely interchanged or the current reversed. The removed cluster may be mixed with Mn ore and be used in preparing fresh electrolyte.
