Abstract

Crude tar is freed from water and solids in settling tanks which are arranged in such a way that the jacket of the first tank is connected with the jacket of the second tank. The jacket of the latter is fitted with a discharge pipe. The tar collecting space of the first is also connected to that of the second settling tank and the tar is drawn off through pipes at the apices of the cones of both collecting spaces.
