Abstract

1330335 Scoop wheel J C STENGELIN 4 Dec 1970 57678/70 Heading F1R [Also in Division B1] An effluent settling tank is of semi-cylindrical form, with inlet 3 and clear liquid outlet 9 at opposite sides, and sludge is removed by a scoop 13 rotating about a horizontal axis 6 in the opposite direction through the tank to the liquid flow. Scoop 13 extends the full axial width of the tank Fig. 2 (not shown) and is supported by sludge discharge pipe 15 which extends into a chamber 18, also rotating. The end of pipe 15 with in chamber 18 is extended by a sleeve 33, axially adjustable by an external wheel or on removal of cover 34. Pipe 16 leads from chamber 18 to the rotatable mounting, whence sludge is discharged through one axial support while driving power is supplied through the other. As scoop 13 emerges from the tank, the contents of the scoop and pipe 15 are drawn into chamber 18 and then discharged therefrom through pipe 16.
