Abstract

A plug for closing a tube under pressure has a convex closure cap which is circular in plant. The cap has (a) a peripheral rim which forms a gastigth seal with the interior of the tube to be sealed; (b) an annular skirt which is also fixed to the plug body and (c) an axial stem and a spring exerting a force acting against compression of the spring. Fluid pressure in the tube acts directly on the convex cap and deforms it such as to increase the effective dia. of the cap and thus seal with the inside of the tube so formed. The cap may be made from a suitable alloy of titanium. Ni-Al or "Duranickel 301".
