Abstract

A heat exchange unit comprises a pair of plates joined together along their edges, having an inlet and an outlet and constituting a flow chamber for a fluid; the flow chamber is interrupted by a large number of spot welds connecting together the two plates; these spot welds are arranged in parallel rows and are staggered both longitudinally and transversely so as to constitute a pattern of rhombus shape. Pref, a number of continuous weld seams are arranged between rows of spot welds to cause a constrained flow path along the rows, esp a meandering path from inlet to outlet.
