Abstract
1356114 Heat exchangers J R LAGE 3 Dec 1971 [3 Sept 1970 21 Sept 1971] 42306/70 and 44031/71 Heading F4S In a method of heat transfer between a fluid and a surface in contact with said fluid, the surface is arranged to form a boundary wall of a turbulence chamber for said fluid, said chamber having a fluid inlet comprising a nozzle for directing a jet of the liquid against the surface, and having also a fluid outlet; the resulting fluid flow in said chamber comprising a turbulent circulating flow pattern along a path in which the flow passes repeatedly over the surface and in which the fluid particles oscillate about said path. Such a chamber may be provided on one or both sides of said wall which may be domed or curved. Several such chambers interconnected in series or in parallel may be provided on the wall and pressurizing means for the medium may be provided between adjacent chambers. The nozzle apertures may comprise slits, or they may be round or square. The medium may be liquid or gaseous or it may be a paste, and it may be pressurized or under vacuum in said chamber. The surface may be finned or embossed to increase the heat transfer area. The chamber outlet may comprise a pipe 9 or it may comprise an annular gap (Fig. 2). Fig. 3 shows an arrangement on one side of a heat exchange wall 13, wherein a plurality of turbulence chambers 1 are formed in a supply chamber 15- having a heat-insulated wall 16. Fluid is supplied by jets 8 to the chambers 1 and in each chamber circulates over the surface in flow paths 12, these migrating towards the outlet 9. Fig. 7 shows an arrangement in which turbulence chambers 21, 22 are provided respectively on opposite sides of a heat transfer wall 23 each chamber comprising an open-ended cell defined by walls 26. 33 are fins. The cells may be circular, square, or triangular in plan (Figs. 8-10).
