Abstract

The two-part inks consist of (1) an epoxy resin with epoxy equiv. 450-525, epoxy value 0.2, density at 25 degrees C of 1.1-1.3, and viscosity at 25 degrees C in 40% soln. for ring-marking of 100-200 cP, and in 80% soln. for printing of 48,000-52,000 cP, together with a solvent of evaporation value 3-450 (ether =1) and >=1 pigment, and (2) a polyamino-amide resin hardener with amine content of is approx. 1.5 mol/kg., H-active equiv. wt. of 100-500 mol. viscosity at 25 degrees C in 50% soln. of -3,000 cP. The one-part inks consist of modified polyester resin with acid value 5-10, softening pt. 60-70 degrees C, density at 20 degrees C of 1.2-1.3, and viscosity at 20 degrees C in 60% soln. for ring marking of 800-1,200 cP, and in 90% soln. for printing of 55,000-59,000 cP, together with a solvent of evaporation value 50-450 and pigment. The inks dry very rapidly (e.g., 5 sec. at 200-250 degrees C) and heating to >300 degrees C is avoided. They resist processing conditions and colour changes and are suitable for electronic reading.
