Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain heat-sensitive paper which does not damage a heat element used in recording and has a high brightness, by using a specified binder as an adhesive component of a heat-sensitive layer which contains lactones and phenols. CONSTITUTION:A polymer (e.g., carboxyl-modified polyvinyl alcohol, sulfonated polystyrene, sulfate of starch) which has anionic functional groups (carboxyl group, sulfonic group, sulfate group, etc.) is reacted with a water-soluble organic amine (e.g., ethanolamines) having a boiling point of not lower than 100 deg.C to neutralize the anionic functional groups, and the product is used as an aqueous binder. Fine powder of a coloring lactone compound (e.g., crystal violet lactone), fine powder of a phenol compound (e.g., 4-phenylphenol), said aqueous binder and additives such as clay are formulated to prepare a heat-sensitive coating liquid, which is coated on a supporting member to form the heat-sensitive layer, thereby obtaining heat-sensitive paper.
