Abstract
N2 is introduced into the molten steel by blowing very pure oxygen above the surface of the molten metal bath, by adding up to 6% gaseous nitrogen to the oxygen used for blowing during the last period of oxygen blowing. Pref. the N2 is added during the last third of oxygen, blowing via the lance. The distance between the orifice of the blowing lance and the surface of the bath is reduced, at least during a part of the nitrogen addn.
