Abstract

External insulation of masonry is effected by a layer of closed cell plastic foam secured by a binder based on dry powdered mixture of cement, silica and CaCO3 reinforced with vinyl resins and activated by admixture with H2O pref. the foam comprises expanded polystyrene, polyurethane or phenolic foam and is protected by brushed or sprayed H2O hardened coatings strengthened with vinyl resins opt. filled with cellulose or vermiculite and dressed with a projected aggregate etc. A layer of glass or textile cloth may be interposed between the foam and the external coating. Layer of thermal and acoustic insulation can adapt to minor or major variations or cracks in the underlying surface and is free from transmission bridges or discontinuities. It is readily applied to any thickness according to insulation requirements.
