Abstract
The efficiency of a refrigeration unit absorber, comprising horizontal tubes in parallel, is enhanced by use of a heavy refrigerant, esp "R22", which dissolves in e.g. butyl acetate, to produce a soln of increased density so that gravitational circulation is promoted. The tube walls the grooved peripherally, or may be coated internally with wire mesh or wound with fine wire to produce by capillary rise a liq film over the entire inner surface of tubes, rising from soln flowing along tube bottoms. The capacity of a unit operated with auxiliary inert gas is increased so that it may be used in heavy duty applications e.g. in air-conditioners, with companying advantages of silent running, and reduced wear and maintenance.
