Abstract

Porous aggregate is made from ordinary clay by mixing and kneading with water and a surfactant to form a slip or paste then air is blown in under low pressure to form bubbles which spread uniformly throughout the mass. The mass is dried, crushed with fragments and fired at >600 degrees C then screened. Process has advantages of using a minimum of equipment and avoiding expensive transport of aggregate fromother situ.
