Abstract
Porous granule production and equipment. Water glass is dripped on to a heated surface, which may be a rotary drum or a tiltable flat surface. After a time it is allowed to fall, or is removed in some way from this heated surface and is then heated until a quantity of water has evaporated-off, leaving solid particles, which after further drying, swelling and aerating become porous granules for use as thermal insulation. The drum, or tiltable flat surface has a Teflon (RTM) coating and is pref. heated to between 200 and 400 degrees C, the drops of water glass remain on the heated surface for pref. 180 to 185 seconds before falling off or being removed.
