Abstract
Cable for medium voltage power transmission (12/20 kV), comprises a metal support cable with insulated power conductor cables carried as long pitch helical windings in contact with the support cable. Pref. the support cable is of steel and protected by a grease which is inert w.r.t. the sheating on the power cables. Pref. the conductor cores are each sheathed successively with a layer of semi-conducting material, an insulation layer of elastomeric, thermoplastic or thermosetting material, and a further layer of semi-conducting material comprising an elastomer or thermoplastic filled with metal powder or a finely divided black. Insulation provides safety and short circuit protection w.r.t. installation of overhead supplies from e.g. tree branches or tall objects, e.g. ladders.
