Abstract

Heating and cooling appts. comprises a first vessel of a heat transfer material contg. one or more of water, anhydrous NH3, CO2, and alcohols, joined by a conduit, pref. of a heat insulating material, to a second vessel of heat transfer material contg. one or more of Na2O, Li2O, CaO, CaCl2, P2O5, NaOH, LiOH, Mg perchlorate, MgCl2, SiO2 gel, shotted urea, activated Al2O3, H2SO4, H2O and NH4NO3, with a cooling means (e.g. finned receptacle, grill or water jacket) attached to the second vessel to maintain the temp. of the contents below 120 degrees C, the vessels being closed with respect to the atmospehrre. A wick may be included in the first vessel and the appts. may be operated under reduced pressure.
