Abstract

Fabrication of triboelectric carrier spheres used in developer mixt. in electrophotographic reproduction equipment comprises (a) selection of suitable particulate material with the desired physical props. for the spheres and of a coating material with the desired physical, mechanical, and triboelectric props., (b) suspending the particulate material in an upwardly directed flow of gas the temp. of which is regulated, (c) introducing the coating material and a volatile support into the gas stream at a flow rate such that the material is deposited at the desired speed and with a desired thickness, so as to obtain max. uniformity of coating, (d) continuing the suspension of the particulate matter in the gas flow until all the volatile support has evaporated, (e) heating the carrier spheres to a temp. and for a time such that the coating acquires the desired physical and triboelectric characteristics.
