Process for washing textiles by impregnating with NaOH in a solvent/surfactant emulsion + steam-treatment. Pref. solvent is a hydrocarbon, pref. surfactant is nonionic. Pref. fluid is 3-12 wt.% of textile. Opt. a bleach e.g. H2O2 is present, and a stabiliser, pref. Na silicate, or EDTA. Steam time is 60-180 sec.
