Abstract

Recovering chemicals from the by-prod residue obtd from fertiliser prod in which (a) the residue (enriched in the impurities contained in phosphate minerals usd for fertiliser prod) is repeatedly dissolved in H2SO4 at elevated temp to recover Si and F, (b) the H2SO4 slurry is neutralised with NH3 to recover (NH4)2SO4, which remains in the filtrate after filtration (c) the residue is slurried with water and treated with NH3 and CO2 to give the corresp. carbonates and (NH4)S2O4 ( the latter being collected), (d) the carbonate residue is dissolved in HNO3 and the lanthanides are extracted with an org. solvent, and (e) the remaining impurities of the original residue are ppted by neutralisation and opt. recycled into the compound fertiliser mfg. process.
