Abstract

Process for reforming a feed contg hydrocarbons and opt. other gases, such as hydrogen and carbon oxides, comprises combining the feed with an oxygen-contg. gas so as to be partially oxidised in a mixing and combustion zone and contacting mixture with a catalyst. The feed being flowed at a hypothetical longitudinal velocity of 15-60 ft/sec. along the longitudinal axis of the mixing and combustion zone and the oxygen contg. gas feed being introduced into the zone at a longitudinal velocity of 4-16 times that of the feed thereby effecting penetration of the oxygen-contg. stream into the slower moving feed and creating a central core of oxygen-contg. gas surrounded by a slower moving hydrocarbon contng. feed, a stable flame being formed and maintained in the interface region of the hydrocarbon contg. streams in a substantial portion of the mixing and combusiton zone.
