Abstract

The tube is used for atomic absorption spectrometry and is heated by a current between electrodes fitted to its ground ends to avoid the use of a flame. To compensate for the localized cooling effects of the gas to be analyzed and protective gas fed in at ports in the sidewalls and so to prevent erroneous measurements of atomic absorption, the temp of the tube is linearized by making the resistance per unit length lower in the centre than at the ends. The increases towards the ends may be stepped, linear or follow smooth curves and these represent decreases in wall thickness.
