Abstract

A knitted fabric formed on a warp knitting machine includes alternate superimposed plain stitches and loop stitches formed by separate yarns, the plane stitches being interlaced by oblique loop stitched formed by the plane stitch yarn on both faces of the fabric and the oblique loop stitches forming longitudinal chevrons on both faces of the fabric. Pref. the fabric includes transverse weft yarns over a part of its width. Pref. the fabric is made of glass fibre yarns and is used as reinforcement for car tyres, filters or conveyor belts etc. The fabric is cheap and has a high dimensional stability. Pref. the oblique loop stitches are formed by transferring the plain stitch yarn between two guide bars and relatively displacing the guide bars longitudinally.
