Abstract
1433128 Knitted fabrics COURTAULDS Ltd 20 Aug 1973 [21 Aug 1972] 38877/72 Heading D1K A warp-knitted tape, for reinforcing matrix materials, has a rib formed by a carbon filament tow resting or packing material on a ground fabric and held there by an overlying thread. The tape may comprise two high modulus carbon filament tows each comprising 10000 filaments of 8 to 9 microns diameter. The tape is preferably made on a single bed Rashel machine wherein a first warp bar with six guides at single needle spacing feeds glass filament yarns, a second warp bar with five guides feeds in five glass filament yarns both of these bars being lapped reciprocally the first between adjacent needle spaces and the second across two needles. A third bar lays in two glass rovings side by side straight down the centre of the tape, a fourth bar lays the carbon filament tow to lie against the glass rovings and a fifth bar feeds a glass filament yarn which is shogged to lay a thread over the glass rovings and carbon tow which is held in the ground fabric on either side.
