Abstract

1360997 Knitting UNION CARBIDE CORP 25 June 1971 [26 June 1970] 29798/71 Headings D1C and D1K Warp knitted fabric is made by knitting chain stitches with yarns 30, 31, 32, 33 from one set of thread guides and looping a portion of each chain stitch round the chain in one of the adjacent pillars in the same course and laying in warps 40, 41, 42 from another set of thread guides between the chains to overlay and underlay the yarns connecting the chains. The fabric may be knitted on a machine with a fall plate but preferably is knitted on a machine with means for raising the needles to a higher than normal level. The machine has needles slidable inside plate 27 and at least two guide bars and conventional pattern chain mechanism for shogging the guide bars. The yarns from each chain are laid round the needles on which the next adjacent chains are being formed and these needles are raised so that the yarn falls below the needle latches after which the yarn is returned and fed to the nedles on which it is forming a chain. This takes place either across the back or front of the warps 40-42 so that they become interwoven with these loops.
