Abstract

Equal parts by wt. of Al and Mg are added to the core of an existing electrode consisting of Cr, Mn, Si, Ni C, Fe and graphite contained in a low carbon steel sheath. V, W and Mo can also be added singly or together to increase the abrasion resistance of the coating. By modifying compsn. of core, an electrode in the form of a reel of wire can be produced, thereby giving a more homogeneous and even coating at reduced cost. Coatings can be applied by open or submerged arc techniques.
