Abstract

The speed of a yarn traverse guide winding yarn onto a cop to produce a bi-conical package is successively increased, decreased and increased such that the yarn is wound onto the cop at a contstant linear rate, and pref. the points of inversion are gradually adjusted by decreasing the traverse amplitude at constant time intervals. Pref. the traverse guide is driven by a variable speed reversible motor controlled by a clock-work mechanism and pref. inversion of the motor is effected by a pair of electromagnetic switches whose separation can be varied by a pair of motor driven endless screws. The packages are used to supply yarn to circular knitting machines for knitting stockings and yarn can be supplied at a constant tension thereby ensuring a more uniform knit.
