Abstract

Preparation of natural vincine by hydrogenation of (-)methoxy-11-tabersonine to (-)-methoxy-11-vincadifformine or (-)methoxy-11-dihydro-14,15-tabersonine which is treated with a peroxide to give N-oxy-11-methoxyvincadifformine. Further treatment with peroxide gives 1,2-dehydro-16-carbomethoxy-16-hydroxy-N-oxy-11-methoxyaspidosper- mine which is treated with triphenylphosphine or other reducers of N-oxides to give a mixture of vincine, 16-epivincine, 16-epivincine and apo-vincine.
