Abstract

Prepn. of l, d and dl vincanol from (-) DELTA-1 aspido spermidine, (+) DELTA-1 aspidospermidine and (plus-or-minus) DELTA-1 spermidine respectively by first treating the starting cpd. with an equimolar amount of a peroxide to give the novel 1,2-dehydroaspidospermidine N-oxide which is then treated with further peroxide to convert it to novel 16-hydroxy-1,2-dehydro aspidospermidine. This cpd. is then converted to the vincanol by means of an N-oxide reducing agent, e.g., triphenylphosphine, in the presence of an acid medium. The rearrangement also gives some 16-epivincanol. Vincanol is used for treating vascular and circulatory disorders.
