Abstract

Heat-exchange grid packing for contacting a gas and a liquid, such as air cooling with chilled water, comprises honeycomb cross-section blocks extruded with thin-walled cells in a plastic material such as PVC, nylon or a polyester. The cell cross-section may be oval, square, hexagonal etc. and is selected to give a low pressure drop through the bed of packing with high voidage of liquid and excellent exchange characteristics. Extrusions are of any convenient length and of constant cross-section; beds of packing are made of blocks laid side-by-side in layers.
