Abstract

A tubular outer electrode is flange jointed in the exhaust system with electrical and thermal insulation rings at the joints. It is enclosed by an external jacket extending over the flanges and also filled with insulant. A central electrode coaxial with it, is mounted on insulated spiders and carries a number of toothed discs, with spacers between, on its central spigot or a number of pairs of toothed edged cups, mouth-to-mouth, and a high voltage a.c. supply connected to the electrodes. The CO, unburnt hydrocarbon and soot content are significantly reduced, combustion with the ozone produced being aided by the deionization effect.
